The Annual Autumnal Catch-Up Post, Part 2

As promised in Part 1, here's the rest of the Catch-Up post from last week.  But I've decided to try a different format, and make it a Seven Quick Takes (SQT) post… easy for you, easy for me.  :)

(also a summer project, thanks to major help from daughter, Kelsey!)

I'm also linking up at Kelly's awesome blog, This Ain't the Lyceum.
(If you haven't read her blog, you really should.)

Here we go. . . .

1.
I promised an update on the kiddos.

Blogging gets tricky as kids age.  I want to respect their privacy, and they appear less and less here, and eventually you don't hear much about them at all.  And I realized that some of you have been here with me, reading, sharing, for over 10 years!  You've watched my family grow. . .  and my children grow up!  Some are even adults now, have moved out of the home, and are living their grown-up lives.

But rest assured, they're doing well.  All of the kids are.  The older kids are busy with jobs, school, life, and we're very proud of them all.  I can say that Lizz (#3) is about to graduate from college this spring!  It seems like we just dropped her off at college. So that's exciting!

2.
We had big food allergies emerge over the summer.

Kelsey (#5) and Matthew (#6) both had severe soy allergies crop up.  HOLY COW.  Soy is in EVERYTHING.  And now, with Donovan's dairy allergy, we've had to make some major dietary changes.  We're learning new recipes, new methods, new ingredients. . . .

We did find an AMAAAAZING granola recipe you HAVE to try!

3.
Speaking of dietary changes. . . .

I previously mentioned that I completely gave up sugar, and decided follow a lower carb lifestyle.  Now I'm really working on lowering my cholesterol, and phasing dairy out of my diet, too. (But... but... but... cheese!  half-n-half!  help!)  But my BP has dropped from borderline high to low, and I've dropped 40 lbs, so that's motivation enough for me to keep going. . . .

and I still have a ways to go.....

4.
And that back-to-school thing I mentioned  last week. . . .

I've gone back to school.  I'm getting my two whole pre-reqs done now so I can apply to a nursing program in the spring.  I already have a bachelor's degree, but some credits expire after a few years (and most certainly after *cough*twentysomething*cough* years) so I had to take a refresher course for A&P.  I'm taking a Cultures of the World / humanities course next, starting on Monday.  I'm so excited!

I'm gonna take this and RUN! I was definitely out of practice.

5.
Sewing / handmade updates. . . .

I've been blessed over this past year with lots of custom orders and requests.
Here are a few. . . .

Embroidery pieces based off of sachets I had made several years ago, looking at old photos of the original. . . .

6.
Custom tote bag. . . .
This was a very special bag made from the shirt of my client's loved one, who had recently passed away.

7.
Garlands.  Lots of garlands. . . .

I'm not sure why, but these are really popular in my shop right now.  I'm not questioning it, and I'm really grateful!  It's just funny how some items will suddenly be in high demand!  They're a lot of fun to make, and I always love the color combinations my clients come up with. . . .

That's about it. . . we're all caught up for the most part!  ;)  I hope to keep up here a little more regularly now, and to keep in touch better.
Until next time. . . .
Talk to you soon!
