I let go for a happy Halloween

Every year, my Halloween duties get lighter and lighter.  As my children age, they like to plan and make their own costumes. . .  and I like to let them.  When my children were all very young, I stressed for daaayyyys, sometimes weeks, making elaborate costumes for each child.  It was insane.  I was crabby.  And it was all about me.

Reclaimed sewing: sewing with shirts for fabric: deconstruction

Yesterday, I posted on what to look for in a thrifted shirt, for the purposes of general sewing.  Today, we'll talk about my favorite part:  DECONSTRUCTION.

Did I mention that this is my favorite part?

When you're an expert like me, you can rip it all up, taking out all KINDS of frustrations on your sewing.  But baby steps. . . today we'll start with scissors.  :)

10 DIY Halloween trick or treat bags

Every year at Halloween, we go on the hunt. . . for the cheap plastic pumpkins that I'd purchased (AGAIN) the year before.  If any are found, they're most assuredly cracked, missing its handle, or cemented with those those gross orange and black mystery goo candies that no one ever eats.  So then I'll typically rush to the store to pay another dollar for another crummy pumpkin bucket that won't survive the year.  Or I might just hand the kid a plastic bag and send them on their way.  Depends on the day I'm having.

But this year will be different!

Tutorial: autumn acorn pillow

I went on a wild pillow-making binge recently.  I made so many pillows, too many pillows, but that didn't stop me!  Because I HAD to make an acorn pillow. . . .

So I wrote a little tutorial while I was making this one, just in case you get all crazy and want to make one, too.
