Stache Tote Giveaway! Hooray!

WHEW!  What a month!  Time has both flown by and dragged on:  magic made possible by sleep deprivation only a newborn can create.  In the blur of the past six weeks, I somehow remembered and prepared for this fun and fantastic day:  Giveaway Day, hosted by Sew, Mama, Sew!  Yippeee!  I had so much fun with it last year, that I couldn't wait to participate again.  Soooo....

This year I'm giving away this handmade 'Stache Tote!

WIP: my QAYG diaper bag, part 2

Making progress!  Here are three of the completed exterior sides of my QAYG diaper bag.  I gave one large side a couple of deep, scooped pockets.  I made the cute pocket piping using my friend's awesome, fabulous, and magical video tutorial on how to make your own bias tape.  (Thanks a bajillion, Erin!)

you can click on any of these photos to enlarge, if you want to see the details better.  :)

Inside one of the scooped pockets, I hid another pocket for my cell phone. . . .

Baby Pants Gone Crazy

I think I went a little bit overboard with the baby pants.  Once I started choosing fabrics, I couldn't stop!  I still want to make some little red plaid flannel ones, a houndstooth pair, a few pairs of soft denim pants....  SEE!  Out of control!

37 weeks and a wee bit of sewing

We're getting close, folks.  Nesting, that magical last-minute push of elusive energy, has finally kicked in and I'm squeezing myself behind the sewing machine for one last hurrah!

Big, busy, boring

Still here, folks.  Cookin' up a healthy bun, which seems to sap a LOT of energy these days.

30 weeks, last weekend
note to self:  next time, wear a belly band under that shirt!  LOL!

Although tired, I'm feeling otherwise pretty good these days -- more energy and less swelling than in any of my other pregnancies.  I've only gained about 7 pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight (which is nothing to be proud of, but still....) and that's a WHOLE lot less than the 30+ lbs I'd have typically gained at this point in pregnancy.

Birthday Giveaway Time!

giveaway time!  keep reading for the details. . . .

ReFabulous is SIX!  I can hardly believe it!  Time has literally flown by since I started this little handmade business six years ago.  In that time, I've had two babies (Owen & Donovan). . .

So I wrote this tutorial. . .

Well, actually, I wrote FIVE tutorials, while sitting and waiting here. . .

Oh, I didn't get them all written in one visit.  Remember we have 9 kiddos, and they all have teeth.  And a few of them had some less-than-stellar teeth.  (Bad mom, I know.)  I've had two weeks' worth of dentist appointments to sit through (and I still have another week to go!) and I'm one of those people that hates -- HATES -- to just sit still.  It's actually physically and mentally painful for me!  So I decided to do something, so I wrote a tutorial.  And another.  And then three more.

What I'm working on... plus a little Memorial Day Special

I'm working on a new patchwork bag for a lovely friend of mine.  Or trying to work on a bag.  But I'm absolutely stumped.  I'm usually inspired by the fabrics I use, but this time... nada.

Now they're just making me mad.  I keep telling them that THEY WILL BECOME A BEAUTIFUL BAG, WHETHER THEY LIKE IT OR NOT, but they're just not listening.

*sigh*

Now and later

I promise:  no more epic posts for awhile, OK?  I mean, you probably needed a nap after reading the last few posts!  (I know I needed a nap after writing them.)   I've been really tired lately and only seem to get random (and short) bursts of energy every now and then. However, I did manage to make this last week:

$150 BARN PROM: a funky Sweet 16 bash on a teensy budget

I recently watched an episode of the Junk Gypsies, featuring their Junk-O-Rama Prom.  PROM!  The old dance hall venue was decorated with awesomely kitschy junk, and they got to wear thrift store prom gowns, and they had a live band!  I AM IN LOVE.  So here was my immediate thought process:
  • Gee, I want to go to Antiques Week and Junk-O-Rama Prom.
  • Now I want to throw a prom party like that.
  • then. . .  HEY!  I HAVE A DAUGHTER TURNING 16!!!  TIME TO THROW OUR OWN BIRTHDAY PROM!!!!!

Let's celebrate good news -- with a little giveaway!

Can it be?

Yes, it's true!  Our family has been blessed once again with a new little Monkey (that's Baby #10, for those who've lost count,) due to arrive mid-autumn.  And if that's not reason enough to celebrate, here are a couple more  reasons --
  1. We made it to 13 weeks!  As a mama of multiple Angel Babies, this is a huge relief.
  2. The morning sickness and fatigue are quickly fading, so I am ready to work and play and sew and stuff.
  3. I'm ready to sew and stuff!  (I know I already mentioned that, but I'm really excited about it!)
  4. My husband got a new job, in an entirely new-to-him industry, and he likes it.

How to add a recessed zipper: tutorial

And now, Add a recessed zipper!

You know, zippers and I haven't always got along.  We fought.  We argued. We struggled.  But I think we're coming to a good place, a place of understanding and acceptance.  I think we're going to be friends, even.  Even when I had to put a zipper in a bag that had no closure whatsoever, and I decided to make a zipper panel for my friend's Amy Butler Sweet Harmony Tote-turned-diaper bag.  Here's how I did it, in case you want to add one to your tote, too. . . .

Making the Sweet Harmony Tote

I'm squinting, as I approach daylight, out from under my pile of projects, orders and miscellaneous stuff-to-do.  One of those pressing projects was making a diaper bag a dear friend of mine.  I wanted to share a few hard lessons tips I learned while making this bag, plus how I added a zipper closure to the tote.  My post on The Zipper will appear tomorrow.  It was just too, too much for one little post.  :)

First, the bag. . . .

Felt Valentine brooch DIY

Oh, hello, there.

We really have so much catching up to do!  But too little time today.  I have a couple of big custom orders I'm hammering out at the moment, some news to share, an adorable springtime project / tutorial in the works. . .  but it will all have to wait.  If you're strapped for time (check!) and need a little de-stress project (check! check!) and need a quick, handmade valentine for someone special (*sighhhhh*) then you might like this project I made a few years back.

It's eco-friendly, totally customizable, and very, very easy!

Epiphany Cookies

We never got around to making Christmas cookies this year, so we decided to bake and decorate Epiphany cookies instead!  (The Christmas season technically lasts until January 13th, which is the Baptism of our Lord, so we're still in the grace period.  So I still have a few more days to take down my Christmas tree.  Wait, what?)

Monkey 8 and I rolled out our favorite sugar cookie recipe. . . .

Happy New Year! and WTHN?

Baby Monkey helping me sort the good-luck black eyed peas

I don't usually do resolutions, mostly because I forget about them halfway through January.  Or get discouraged.  Or think of a million excuses why I don't / can't / won't follow through.

This year is no different.  No resolutions for me!  However. . .
